Volunteers

Welcome to the page dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the volunteers of the Management History (MH) Division of the Academy of Management.

The continued vitality and collegial spirit of our Division are sustained by the dedication and generosity of our volunteers. Volunteering within the MH Division is not merely a task – it is a form of intellectual stewardship. Our volunteers play a vital role in preserving and advancing the Division’s mission to shed light on the historical foundations of management thought and organizational practice.

Importantly, volunteering also serves as a formative experience. By engaging in the Division’s operations, volunteers gain valuable insight into academic leadership, develop collaborative skills, and build relationships with senior scholars. In doing so, they learn firsthand what it means to lead within a professional association – preparing them to potentially become the Division’s future executives.

In this regard, we are proud to recognize two key categories of volunteers within our community

Annual Conference Volunteers

Each year, a significant number of members contribute to the Division’s presence at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. Their support takes many forms:

·      Chairing and discussing sessions that foster critical engagement and dialogue;

·      Assisting with communication and logistics to ensure a smooth, inclusive, and enriching conference experience;

·      Supporting media coverage for all the MH-related events (parallel sessions, PDWs, social events)

Multi-Year Service Volunteers

Beyond the annual conference, a dedicated group of members provides sustained service to the Division throughout the year and over multiple terms. These individuals:

·      Oversee strategic initiatives that strengthen the Division’s academic and organizational impact

·      Lead efforts in communication, outreach, and member engagement

·      Help shape the Division’s long-term vision, priorities, and scholarly identity

Their ongoing contributions provide continuity, leadership, and foresight. Through their work, the MH Division remains responsive to its membership, inclusive in its practices, and forward-looking in its ambitions.
