Sponsors: MH, OMT, CMS
Join the AOM 2024 PDW on "Researching Legacies of Colonialism in Management and Organization Studies" and further the conversation on how colonial pasts influence the present and future of Management and Organization Studies.
Date: Friday, August 9, 2024
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Venue: Swissotel, Montreux 2 - Event Centre
The pervasive impact of colonial legacies on management theory and practice is profound and multifaceted, encompassing issues such as slavery, racism, caste systems, the criminalization and genocide of Indigenous peoples, ecocide, gender binary, patriarchy, and heteronormativity. These legacies manifest in entrenched mindsets, resource inequalities, power dynamics, and management structures that mirror and sustain the asymmetric relationships inherited from the colonial era.
The first part of this workshop will feature presentations from scholars experienced in researching colonial legacies reflecting on the current and future state of the field. This part will conclude with thoughts from Hari Bapuji as the discussant.
The second part will open the conversation to all workshop participants, engaging them in round table discussions with the panelists, followed by an open forum for questions. The workshop will conclude with closing remarks from the organizers.
*Prior registration is not required to participate in this PDW.
