Here we go with our new logo!
This new visual identity is the outcome of a two-step process designed to ensure both conceptual coherence and community engagement. First, the key elements of the logo were derived through a content analysis of the Division’s newly revised Domain Statement, ensuring that the design reflects our core intellectual commitments. Second, after several iterations were developed in collaboration with the Academy of Management headquarter, the final version was selected through a vote by our member base.
The logo brings together four symbolic elements that represent the Division’s mission and scholarly orientation:
➡️ 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐨, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, symbolizes the central role of human agency – both scholars and practitioners – in shaping, interpreting, and theorizing management history across time.
➡️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 beneath Clio represents the legacy and intellectual heritage of management thought, emphasizing the Division’s commitment to tracing the evolution of management ideas and preserving its written traditions.
➡️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 captures the conceptual significance of time, reflecting the Division’s focus on historical continuity, temporal dynamics, and the rhythm of change in management practices. It also evokes the Division’s scientific rigor and interdisciplinary methodology, referencing both time as an analytical lens (e.g., Taylor’s legacy of scientific management)
➡️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐢𝐭 symbolizes technological evolution, highlighting how advancements in tools and systems have historically shaped and continue to influence management discourse.
We thank all those who contributed to this process. The result is a logo that both honors our intellectual heritage and reflects the evolving scope of historical inquiry in the field of management.
