Dear Management History community,
We are proud to announce the establishment of the Mark Govier Ph.D. Scholarship, designed to support and encourage research in the intersection of government and society, particularly focusing on the relationship between the Royal Society of London and the British Government.
About Mark Govier: Born in Bath, UK, and raised in Australia, Mark studied at Adelaide University. He spent many years in various government roles, including positions at Long Bay Prison, Sydney, and the Crown Prosecution Service in London. While in London, Mark developed a deep interest in the Royal Society of London, particularly its historical ties to the British Government. His research led to publications highlighting its connections with the British Government and the slave trade. Despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer in March 2024, Mark's dedication to his academic pursuits remained steadfast. This scholarship is a testament to his commitment to uncovering the links between historical institutions and government.
