Volunteers

The Management History Division is sustained by the active involvement of volunteers who contribute time, care, and intellectual energy to the life of the Division. Volunteering is an opportunity to participate directly in the work of a scholarly community devoted to historical approaches to management, organization, and business studies, while also developing meaningful professional connections across career stages and geographic contexts.

The call for volunteers is always open and is designed to accommodate different forms of engagement, depending on availability and interests.

One way to contribute is through short-term service during the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. Volunteers supporting the Division at the conference assist with the organization and smooth running of Professional Development Workshops, symposia, and paper sessions, helping to ensure a welcoming and well-coordinated environment for presenters and participants alike. This form of service is particularly well suited to members who are attending the conference and wish to play an active role in supporting the Division’s on-site activities while engaging closely with fellow scholars.

A second pathway involves longer-term, year-round service to the Division. Volunteers in this role support the Division’s activities beyond the annual meeting, contributing to continuity, communication, and community building throughout the academic year. This form of engagement is ideal for members interested in sustained service and in helping the Division grow as an inclusive, globally connected scholarly community.

Volunteering with the Management History Division offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience in academic service, expand professional networks, and contribute to a collegial and intellectually vibrant environment. The Division welcomes volunteers at all career stages, from doctoral researchers to senior scholars, and values diverse perspectives and forms of contribution.

The Management History Division is committed to its renewed domain statement and to the strategic direction of the Academy of Management in strengthening collaboration, curiosity, and care across its divisions. The continued involvement of volunteers is central to this mission and to the Division’s ability to thrive over time.
