Virtual Open House

On May 14, 2026 the Management History Division hosted a Virtual Open House in collaboration with the Academy of Management Student Community. The event was designed to provide a clear and welcoming entry point for scholars interested in management, organizational, and business history.

The session featured contributions from Matteo Cristofaro (Division chair), Luis Orozco (Representative-at-large), and Ellen Shaffner (Students' representative), who introduced participants to the division’s mission, activities, and intellectual community. The discussion addressed what the Management History Division does and stands for, what kinds of research fit within management history, how historical perspectives can be integrated into management and organization studies, and how members can become involved through mentorship, volunteering, awards, and other division initiatives.

A central feature of the event was the quality of the discussion. Participants raised thoughtful questions and showed strong interest in how history can inform contemporary management research. The conversation highlighted the continued relevance of historical inquiry for understanding organizations, management practices, institutions, and the future of the field.

The division extends its thanks to Red Lovegood (AoM Students' representative) for her excellent support in organizing this event.

The Management History Division welcomes scholars working on, or simply curious about, management, organizational, and business history. The Virtual Open House reaffirmed the division’s role as a vibrant, interdisciplinary, and welcoming community within the Academy of Management.
